Open-source software has become the cornerstone of modern computational science and engineering, driving innovation across academia, research, and industry.

At the 2025 SIAM Conference on Computational Science and Engineering (CSE25), organised by the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM), dealii-X was proudly represented by Prof. Martin Kronbichler (Ruhr University Bochum) and Prof. Luca Heltai (University of Pisa). Both contributed to discussions exploring how large, collaborative software ecosystems—such as deal.II, PETSc, and SUNDIALS—continue to transform industrial and applied mathematics.

These open-source frameworks exemplify the strength of community-driven development. They rely on rigorous testing, thorough documentation, and a culture of mentorship to ensure accuracy, quality, and long-term sustainability. Behind each of these projects stands a collective effort of hundreds of contributors working across institutions and disciplines, united by a shared commitment to open science.

Through initiatives like dealii-X, the community continues to push the boundaries of what high-performance computing can achieve—advancing simulation technologies, mathematical modelling, and real-world applications across science and healthcare.
